Daughter of Prized tops first day of Barretts sale

Lady Cara, a three-year-old Prized filly landed a final bid of $42,000 to top the first day of the Barretts October mixed sale on Monday. Consigned by Havens Bloodstock Agency, agent for J.Z. Stock Farm, Lady Cara was purchased by Stanley Fulton.Lady Cara has won two of nine career starts and has earned $40,200. She was third in a Bay Meadows allowance race on October 10 in her most recent start.

Out of the winning Naskra mare Lady Hatchett, Lady Cara is a half sister to stakes-placed Banquo, Lord Emerald, and Emeraldforalady.

Barretts reported sales on 180 horses from 219 offered for a buy-back rate of 17.8%. Total receipts of $887,900 were down 15.1% from last year when 189 horses were sold for $1,045,800. The average of $4,933 was a drop of 10.8% from last year's figure of $5,533. The median was virtually unchanged at $3,250 compared with $3,300 in 2000.

The final session of the two-day sale begins at 11:00 PST.
