Mare in foal to Silver Charm tops first OBSC open session

Herbs and Spices, a 19-year-old daughter of Relaunch believed to be in foal to champion and dual classic winner Silver Charm, brought a final bid of $39,000 from Tom Gregerson on Wednesday to top the first of two open sessions at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company fall mixed sale in Ocala.Consigned by Glen Hill Farm, agent, Herbs and Spices is out of Grade 1-winning mare Prize Spot, by Little Current, and is a half sister to stakes winner Georgia River. She has produced stakes winner Effectiveness, by Notebook, and has an unraced juvenile colt by Unbridled. She was barren in 2001 after being bred to Wild Again.

Overall, 210 yearlings were sold at the session for gross receipts of $942,800 and an average of $4,490. At last year's corresponding session, 212 yearlings were sold for a gross of $1,167,100 and an average of $5,505.
