Desert King colt tops session at Tattersalls December

A colt by 1997 European highweight and Irish Derby (Ire) winner Desert King brought a final bid of approximately $97,500 (65,000 guineas) to top the Thursday session of the Tattersalls Ltd. December foal sale in Newmarket.Margaret O'Toole, agent, signed the ticket for the bay from the consignment of Charlie Mason's Silfield Bloodstock. Out of the winning Akarad mare Flambera, the colt is a half brother to Grade 3 winner Jumron (GB) and stakes-placed Yayoomel (GB) and Oblomov (GB). Mason purchased Flambera in foal to Desert King at last year's December mares sale for 22,000 guineas.

Tattersalls reported sales on 170 horses for gross receipts of $3,208,391 (2,147,000 guineas), an average of $18,872 (12,629 guineas).
