Maria's Mon weanling colt brings $152,000 at Keeneland

A weanling colt by Maria's Mon fetched a top price of $152,000 from JEC Equine to top the Wednesday session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.From the consignment of Millennium Farms Kentucky, agent for Tim and Chris Russell, the gray colt is out of the winning Spend a Buck mare Forever Fun, who is a half sister to Grade 2 winner Devil's Cup and Grade 3-placed winner Pleasure Lover. Maria's Mon is sire of 2001 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Monarchos from his first crop.

Keeneland reported sales of 236 horses during the session for a total of $2,370,800, a decrease of 38.7% from last year's corresponding session when 247 horses were sold for $3,288,000. Average dipped 32.5% to $10,046 from $13,312, and median fell from $8,500 to $6,500.

Also on Wednesday, broodmare Affirmed Lane, who is in foal to Storm Creek, was purchased for $150,000 by Joss Collins's Blandford Bloodstock. A four-year-old daughter of Affirmed out of Grade 2 winner Festivity, by Spectacular Bid, Affirmed Lane won two of 14 career starts and is carrying her first foal. She was consigned by John Williams, agent.
