Broodmare prospect tops Keeneland session at $420,000

Takesmybreathaway, a three-year-old Gone West filly cataloged as a broodmare prospect, attracted a final bid of $420,000 to top the fourth day of the 11-day Keeneland November breeding stock sale on Thursday.Consigned by FitzGerald/Keogh, agent for Abergwaun Farm, the half sister to stakes winner Mutakddim and to Grade 1-placed Smooth Charmer, was purchased by Ned Toffey. Takesmybreathaway is out of the winning Seattle Slew mare Oscillate, a half sister to champion Rhythm. In two starts in England last year, Takesmybreathaway failed to hit the board.

Keeneland reported sales on 225 of 329 horses offered for gross receipts of $12,725,100, a plunge of 29.8% from last year when 224 horses were sold for $18,122,700 during the Thursday session. The buy-back rate was 31.6%.

The average price of $56,556 was a drop of 30% from last year's figure of $80,905. The median sunk to $40,000 compared with $63,500 in 2000.
