Barretts catalogs 541 for January sale
Barretts Equine Ltd. has bulked up the size of its January mixed sale catalog slightly and will offer 541 horses in the two-day auction on January 22-23 in the Hinds Pavilion in Pomona, California. The 541 horses cataloged tops the 532 cataloged for the 2001 sale. The group includes 250 broodmares/broodmare prospects, 115 short yearlings, 78 two-year-olds, and 85 horses of racing age.
The sale's opening session will feature two-year-olds and horses of racing age and 42 horses consigned by John and Betty Mabee's Golden Eagle Farm.
Sires represented in this year's catalog include Cee's Tizzy, Easy Goer, Kingmambo, French Deputy, Gone West, Honour and Glory, Storm Cat, Sunday Silence, Theatrical (Ire), and Wild Again. Broodmares are in foal to such sires as Afternoon Deelites, Cee's Tizzy, Bertrando, Event of the Year, Free House, Friendly Lover, Olympio, Swiss Yodeler, and Sandpit (Brz).
Last year's sale posted a 192% gain in gross and 149.8% increase in average price when 429 of the 463 horses sold for $6,026,200 and an average of $14,047.
The sale was boosted by the dispersal of horses previously owned by the Ernest F. Cossey-led TLC America, which was sued by the Securities and Exchanges Commission for its alleged involvement in a multimillion-dollar fraud case.
