Silver Ghost mare tops Fasig-Tipton December mixed sale

Lovely Ghost, a Virginia-bred daughter of Silver Ghost, landed a final bid of $50,000 to top the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall mixed sale on Monday in Lexington. Lovely Ghost was sold during the opening portion of the one-day sale that is dedicated to broodmares, broodmare prospects, racing/broodmare prospects, stallion shares, and stallion prospects. The second half was devoted to weanlings, yearlings, and horses of racing age.

Jack Thomas secured Lovely Ghost, a six-year-old out of the Graustark mare My Lovely. The dam of an unraced two-year-old filly by Pleasant Tap and a weanling colt by Lil's Lad, Lovely Ghost was sold in foal to Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Louis Quatorze.

Fasig-Tipton reported sales on 121 of the 170 horses offered for a total of $531,400, down 55.1% from last year's total of $1,182,400 for 197 sold. The sale's average also dropped 26.8% from $6,002 in 2000 to $4,392 this year, while median slipped 14.3% to $3,000.
