Dubai Golden Shaheen ‘highest on the priority list’ for Black Caviar

Posted: Friday, February 03, 2012 5:12 PM

Neil Warrett, managing owner of unbeaten Australian Horse of the Year Black Caviar, told Melbourne’s The Age that the $2-million Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-G1) on March 31 is “highest on the priority list” for the mare.

The six-year-old Bel Esprit mare has won all 17 of her career starts in Australia. Warrett added that the Dubai trip only fits if it does not interfere with the ultimate goal—a start at Royal Ascot in England. The 1,200-meter (5.97-furlong) Golden Shaheen will be run on the synthetic Tapeta Footings surface.

Black Caviar is expected to start in the C.F. Orr Stakes (Aus-G1) at Caulfield on February 11 and the Futurity Stakes (Aus-G1) on February 25 before Dubai.

Trainer Peter Moody hedged a bit, saying Black Caviar was now “50-50” for Dubai.

“Dubai wasn’t really on the radar but it’s on the table, as are a number of options,” Moody said. “The Dubai trip was probably a 10% chance but now I’d say 50-50. If she went to Dubai, it would certainly break up her trip to England. There is ten weeks in between the two races, so that presents a few problems, but I am familiar with the logistics of it all and it’s an option we are thinking about. She’d already had her vaccinations for the trip to England, so that wouldn’t be a concern if she was to go to Dubai.”

I hope Black Caviar shows up in Dubai in March? But I'll believe it when I actually see it. And if she does come to the Golden Shaheen, she'll likely be facing Sheikh Mohammed's horse, Sepoy, in that race. A horse she seems to keep going out of her way to race in Australia. JMO.
