Grade 1 winner Boys At Tosconova won his 2012 debut and his third straight start overall as he chased down pacesetter Groupie Doll in the stretch and drove on to a clear victory on Friday at Gulfstream Park.

Boys At Tosconova coverd one mile on a track rated as fast in 1:35.87 under jockey Javier Castellano to win by three-quarters of a length.

The four-year-old Officer colt, who won the Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes (G1) and finished second in the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) as a two-year-old but missed much of last season with an injury, entered off back-to-back victories in optional claiming races at Aqueduct in November and at the Hallandale Beach, Florida, track in December.

“He’s shown up the last three times and it’s time for us to start going in stakes again now,” winning trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. said.

Groupie Doll also made her seasonal debut after winning four of eight starts last year, including the Gardenia Stakes (G3) at Ellis Park, for trainer Buff Bradley.

Boys At Tosconova is one of two winners from three starters out of the stakes-placed winning Coronado’s Quest mare Little Bonnet, who is out of multiple Grade 3 winner Valid Bonnet.
