Black Caviar could make first start outside Australia in Dubai

Posted: Wednesday, January 18, 2012 5:04 PM

Unbeaten Black Caviar, Australia’s Horse of the Year and the world’s top-ranked sprinter, could make her first trip to race outside of her native country to race at the Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) meeting in March.

Trainer Peter Moody entered the Bel Esprit mare, who is unbeaten in 16 career starts, in both the $2-million Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-G1) and the $1-million Al Quoz Sprint (UAE-G1) on World Cup night on March 31 at Meydan Racecourse.

The Golden Shaheen is at 1,200 meters (5.97 furlongs) on the synthetic Tapeta Footings surface and the Al Quoz Sprint is at 1,000 meters (4.97 furlongs) on turf.

Black Caviar could face Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum’s multiple Australian Group 1 winner Sepoy, a son of Elusive Quality who has ten wins and one second from 11 lifetime starts, should Moody opt for the Golden Shaheen.

"Black Caviar is the best sprinter in the world of the past 20 years,” Martin Talty, international racing manager of the Dubai Racing Club, told Paris Turf. “This is the first time trainer Peter Moody has entered her outside Australia, and we would be delighted to see her in Dubai. It is an honor for the racecourse here.

“All Australians want to see her run against Sepoy, who is now owned by Sheikh Mohammed. With So You Think involved in the World Cup, the three best horses in Australia in recent years could all run in Dubai."
