Reveron extended his winning streak to three by turning back game runner-up Casual Trick in the stretch of the Gulfstream Park Derby on Sunday.

The Songandaprayer gelding stalked front-running Nachas and Joy from second in the 1 1/16-mile race for three-year-olds and opened a clear lead at the five-sixteenths pole under Fernando Jara.

Casual Trick, the 3.30-to-1 second betting choice for trainer Nick Zito and owner Robert LaPenta, rallied on the outside of Reveron near the top of the stretch and the duo battled stride for stride to the sixteenth pole. Reveron edged away late to win by a half-length for trainer Agustin Bezara and owner Stipa Racing Stable.

The Gulfstream Park Derby was the first North American stakes win for Venezuelan Bezara.

“We think he is the best three-year-old in Florida right now,” said Bezara, a multiple leading trainer in Venezuela. “This is my first stakes win in the U.S., and the biggest day I’ve had since I came here two years ago. We’ll see how he comes out of it. He goes the [two-turn] distance. We’ll consider the options.”

Bezara, who entered Sunday with a five-horse contingent based at Calder Race Course, won two other races on the card at Gulfstream. He won the third race on Sunday with Mommy’s Image and the fifth with Sweetlandofliberty, but both horses were claimed.

Reveron completed 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.74 on a track rated as fast.

“I had to ask him a little bit in the first part of the race because the first turn comes up so fast,” Jara said. “After that we were in good position and my horse really performed well. He dug in and wouldn’t let the other horse by.”

After finishing second in his career debut in September and third in his second start in October, Reveron broke through with a six-length romp going seven furlongs on November 4 at Calder Race Course. He entered the Gulfstream Park Derby off a 2 1/4-length win in a seven-furlong allowance race on November 26 at Calder.

Reveron is out of the winning Awesome Again mare Carolina Sunrise. His second dam is Grade 1-placed multiple graded stakes winner Stylish Star, by Our Native.
