Sanagas steps up in Hollywood Turf Cup

After posting a strong victory in his most recent start at Keeneland Race Course, Andreas Jacobs’ Sanagas (Ger) will make his first attempt at the highest level on Saturday in the $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes (G1) at Hollywood Park.
Sanagas, a five-year-old Lomitas (GB) gelding trained by Graham Motion, won the Sycamore Stakes (G3) at 1 5/8 miles on October 20 at Keeneland in his most recent start. He has two wins from four starts in North America after shipping from his native Germany, where he won four of five starts.
Sanagas will break form the outside post in the field of seven for the 1 ½-mile turf race.
Grade 1 winner Miss Match (Arg) comes to Hollywood Park from the Breeders’ Cup, where she finished ninth to Royal Delta in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (G1). Winner of the Santa Margarita Stakes (G1) in March, Miss Match is winless in five starts since that Grade 1 score.
Multiple graded stakes winner Bourbon Bay most recently finished eighth in the Northern Dancer Stakes Presented by VTECH (Can-G1) on September 18. Garrett Gomez will get the mount for the first time on the five-year-old Sligo Bay (Ire) gelding.
Also entered is Norvsky, most recently the winner of the California Cup Classic Stakes on October 29 at Santa Anita Park; Michael Tabor’s Falcon Rock (Ire); French Group 3 winner Goldwaki (Ger); and Chilean Group 1 winner Ashtar (Chi).
