Martin Schwartz’s French classic winner Stacelita (Fr) surged past pacesetter Dubawi Heights (GB) in the stretch and surged to a clear victory in the Beverly D. Stakes (G1) on Saturday at Arlington Park.

Stacelita, who was supplemented to the Breeders’ Cup, earned an automatic starting berth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) in November at Churchill Downs via the Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” series. The five-year-old Monsun mare completed 1 3/16 miles in 1:57.57 under Ramon Dominguez as the 9-to-5 favorite for her ninth win from 16 career starts.

“I had an absolutely wonderful trip,” Dominguez said after Stacelita stalked Dubawi Heights from third through a half-mile in :49.97 and six furlongs in 1:15.49. “I was able to sit right off the leader. Nice and relaxed—comfortable fractions. Turning for home, once I found a seam on the rail—I had to go for it and she reached for it great.”

Stacelita powered clear to win by 1 1/4 lengths for her first U.S. win. She finished third against males in the United Nations Stakes (G1) on July 2 at Monmouth in her stateside debut. Winning trainer Chad Brown said she would have one more race prior to the Breeders’ Cup and credited previous trainer Jean-Claude Rouget for her excellent condition when joining his stable.

Stacelita won the 2009 Prix de Diane (Fr-G1) (French Oaks) and has earned a top-level win in each of the last three seasons.

“This is my third Beverly D winner. Gorella (Fr) won in 2006 and Angara (GB) won in 2005,” Schwartz said. “Stacelita and Chad Brown are both fantastic. Stacelita has been a magnificent animal since I first saw her, and Chad has been a magnificent animal since I first saw him."

Bred in France by Jean Pierre Joseph Dubois, Stacelita is out of German stakes winner Soignee (Ger), by Dashing Blade.

Dubawi Heights held off South African Group 1 winner River Jetez (SAf) by a head for second.

This mare reeks of class!! She won the first 6 races of her career in France, including the G1 Prix De Diane(French Oaks) and the G1 Prix Vermeille in 2009. She didn't lose her first race until she was beaten by Sea The Stars in the 09' Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp. IMO, if Ramon Dominguez had been aboard Stacelita at Monmouth for the G1 United Nations instead of Joe Bravo, she would've won that race, too. And then she'd have automatic "win and your in" slots for both the Breeders Cup F&M Turf and the Breeders Cup Turf.

I hope Stacelita runs in the Yellow Ribbon at Santa Anita on her way to the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

If no one did-not go to the windows and collect on this win by Stacelita your not a true racing fan, it was obvious that she was sitting on a win and I could not believe she was not 1/5. What a gift she was in regards to her odds, can anyone say CHA-CHING $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.............. <\_~
