Arlington’s Prairie State Festival features charity event

Saturday’s Prairie State Festival for Illinois-breds at Arlington Park will feature a specially designed race to benefit the Galloping Out Foundation for the rescue and care of retired racehorses.

Arlington plans to donate the purse money and commission earned on the race to benefit the non-profit organization that was founded in 2010 as a cooperative effort between the Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and Chicago Thoroughbred racetracks.

“Our most important goal is making sure the Thoroughbred athlete has a chance for a second career once his racing days are over,” said Galloping Out President Nate Ruffalo. “These horses have been so good to us that we want to be sure we are good to them after they are done racing. That’s what Galloping Out is all about.”

The Prairie State Festival consists of six $100,000 stakes races in various divisions for horses registered, conceived, and/or foaled in Illinois.

Arlington will also host the Galloping Out 2011 Charity Fundraiser in the paddock after the races on Saturday, an event that will feature a silent auction, live entertainment, and the chance to mingle with trainers and jockeys. Tickets cost $25 and include hors d’oeuvres and two drink tickets.
