Grade 2 winner Meteore broke down in an allowance race at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday and was euthanized.

Bred and raced by the Wertheimer brothers, the five-year-old Pulpit horse out of stakes winner Meteor Miracle, by Twining, fractured his right front ankle going into the first turn of the one-mile turf race. He was the 7-to-5 favorite.

Trained by Richard Mandella, Meteore registered his lone stakes victory in the 2009 La Jolla Handicap (G2) at Del Mar. Last year, he finished second in the Del Mar Handicap (G2) and third in the Citation Handicap (G2).

Hudson Landing won Saturday’s race by one length over Posse Power, and Grade 1 winner Awesome Gem followed in third in his first start as an eight-year-old.

Heaven forbid the owners/trainers try to save a horse, no, it's just easier to put them down; a.k.a. less expensive!
I had a filly given to me by her trainer because of her knee. She didn't go down in her race but yes, it costs me money to this very day for daily supplements, etc. She is sweet, loving, and very willing to do anything I ask of her. Does she ride? Yep! Currently we even jump 2ft!
People, give these horses a chance to live! Quit taking the easy way out!
