Uncle Mo continues Tampa Bay Derby preparations

One day after Todd Pletcher sent out Brethren to win his three-year-old debut in the Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs, the Eclipse Award-winning trainer continued to prepare champion Uncle Mo and Grade 1-placed winner Stay Thirsty for their sophomore debuts.

Pletcher trains both colts for Mike Repole, and they worked in company on Sunday at Palm Meadows Training Center, with each breezing four furlongs in :47.45.

Neither colt has raced since November 6 when Uncle Mo won the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) and Stay Thirsty finished fifth, beaten 14½ lengths by his stablemate. The workout was the third for each since that race.

 “I was very pleased with his work,” Pletcher said of Uncle Mo. “He is right on schedule, and the Tampa [Bay] Derby (G3) [on March 12] remains a possible target.”

Pletcher said that the Gotham Stakes (G3) on March 5 at Aqueduct could mark Stay Thirsty’s three-year-old debut.
