A week after taking his first step toward his 2011 debut, 2010 champion two-year-old male Uncle Mo was back on the workout tab on Sunday at Palm Meadows Training Center in South Florida for trainer Todd Pletcher.
The bay Indian Charlie colt breezed a half-mile in :49.60, which ranked 18th of 41 timed workouts at the distance. His second workout was a furlong longer than his first.
Pletcher trains Uncle Mo for owner Mike Repole’s Repole Stable.
His three-furlong breeze in :39.95 on January 30 was his first serious move since winning the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) in November at Churchill Downs to cap an unbeaten campaign. He probably will be pointed to the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) on March 12.
“I thought he worked excellent,” Pletcher said. “Last week, he just had an easy three-eighths, and I was actually surprised how much he moved forward off of just that one easy work.
“His work this morning was pretty much a textbook half-mile. He went nice and easy and galloped out really strong. He came back not tired at all. He’ll likely go another half-mile next week.”
Stablemate Stay Thirsty, runner-up in the 2010 Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes (G1), also breezed a half-mile in :49.60. Pletcher also trains the Bernardini colt for Repole.
WinStar Farm’s unbeaten homebred Brethren, a half brother to 2010 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Super Saver, breezed five furlongs in 1:01 for Pletcher at Palm Meadows. The drill ranked fourth of 23 timed moves at the distance.
The Distorted Humor colt won his debut in October at Belmont Park and has not raced since a clear victory in an allowance race on November 27 at Churchill in his second career start.
