Lookin At Lucky goes back to work

LOOKIN AT LUCKY

Bill Denver/Equi-Photo

Champion and classic winner Lookin At Lucky turned in his first workout on Wednesday since capturing the IZOD Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) on August 1 at Monmouth Park.

The Smart Strike colt, among the favorites for champion three-year-old male honors following his four-length romp in the Haskell, breezed four furlongs on the synthetic Polytrack surface at Del Mar in :49.40 handily. The move ranked 26th fastest of 45 timed workouts at the distance.

Last year’s champion two-year-old male is in the midst of a standout sophomore season. After opening the season with a win in the Rebel Stakes (G2) at Oaklawn Park on March 13, Lookin At Lucky finished third in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) and sixth in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) prior to capturing the Preakness Stakes (G1) and Haskell in succession.

It's great to see Lucky back to work. Mr. Baffert knows how to get them ready for the big one's, especially when the purse is a big one, not to say that Lucky isn't talented, by this time next year he will be the front runner for horse of the year unless they take him to Dubai to run for that big jack pot in the desert then maybe that could conflict with him winning the honor next year, we'll see. Anyway good to see him back and getting ready for some race, maybe the Goodwood at Hollywood Park.....

I hate to say it, but there is no way this horse will make the Classic and be a serious contender off only 1 more start. Baffert has just said he can't make the Penn Derby, so then the next logical step is a race in early October. He has missed to much training time to be ready for Zenyatta and Blame and Quality Road off just one race. I hope Bob Baffert does right by this colt and not rush him. Get him ready for the end of the year races at Santa Anita and the soon to be 4 year old races.

He is rapidly improving with each start, he is ready to start taking on his elder's, Baffert indicated he wanted to keep Lucky on the dirt, so I do believe his next start is the Penn. Derby. He will be tough come B.C.Classic don't overlook....

I think Bafffort has indicated the Penn. Derby later this month will be his next and last race until the BC
