The top two finishers from last month’s Sorrento Stakes (G3) headline a full field of 12 two-year-old fillies for the $250,000 Darley Debutante Stakes (G1) on Saturday at Del Mar.
In their most recent start, Wickedly Perfect beat A Z Warrior by one length in the 6½-furlong Sorrento on August 6 at Del Mar (video).
Trained by Doug O’Neill for STD Racing Stable, Peter Moehrke, and Rafter JR Ranch, Wickedly Perfect enters the seven-furlong Debutante with victories in each of her two career starts.
The gray or roan Congrats filly won her career debut in a five-furlong maiden special weight race on June 27 at Hollywood Park by 4¾ lengths.
While Wickedly Perfect capitalized on a stalking trip to win the Sorrento, A Z Warrior moved gradually up through the field from sixth and drove with determination in the lane for second.
The dark bay or brown Bernardini filly, conditioned by Racing Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert for Zayat Stables, opened her career with a 1½-length victory in a 5½-furlong maiden special weight race on July 15 at Hollywood.
Izshelegal has not won a race but enters off a second-place finish in the Landaluce Stakes on July 11 at Hollywood Park and a third-place finish in the Sorrento in her first two starts. She was not nominated to the Debutante, but trainer Terry Knight and owners 3R3 Racing and Randy and Lisa Lynch supplemented her into the race for $10,000.
David and Holly Wilson’s She’ll Heir finished fourth in the Sorrento but enters the Debutante with a stakes victory to her credit following a one-length victory in the 5½-furlong Cinderella Stakes on June 9 at Hollywood.
Trained by Vladimir Cerin, the Wildcat Heir filly then recorded back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the Landaluce Stakes on July 11 and the Sorrento.
The field also includes maiden winner Avid, who opened her career with a 2¼-length victory in a six-furlong maiden special weight race on August 1 at Del Mar for Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella and owner Ramona Bass.

There is a ton of speed lined up, this race sets up for Izshelegal, that is my pick.

Izshelegal was taken too far back in her last and was give too much to do in the lane, let's hope the jock can stay a little closer this time and he will be taking his picture this time around. The one to beat...
