Field favored in all three Derby Future pools

Posted: Sunday, March 28, 2010 9:06 PM

by Ed DeRosa

The field of all other three-year-olds not listed as one of 23 individual betting interests closed as the 9-to-2 favorite in the third and final Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

Two-year-old champion Lookin At Lucky was shortly behind the field at 4.90-to-1, and Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) winner Eskendereya was next at 5.60-to-1. Lookin At Lucky won the Rebel Stakes (G2) in his season debut and could make his final start before the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) on April 3. Eskendereya is expected to race the same day in the Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) at Aqueduct.

The field received added support in part because both winners of the graded stakes for three-year-old males on March 27—Dean’s Kitten in the Lane’s End Stakes (G2), Mission Impazible in the Louisiana Derby (G2)—were not individually listed. The pool closed at 6 p.m. EDT on Sunday, but field supporters got some added bang for their bucks when field horse Endorsement won the Sunland Derby (G3).

Bettors wagered $224,358 in the win pool of the Future Wager and $85,796 in the exacta pool for total handle of $310,154.
