Jockey Alan Garcia guided Majestic Blue to a half-length victory in the first race on Saturday at Gulfstream Park to record his 1,000th career victory.
Majestic Blue battled for the lead in the six-furlong allowance race before edging past Strasbourg at the wire, completing the distance in 1:09.68 on a track rated as fast.
A native of Lima, Peru, Garcia was the leading apprentice in his native country in 2002-‘03 prior to coming to the U.S.
Garcia won his first Grade 1 race aboard Lahudood (GB) in the 2007 Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park. One month later, the pair teamed up to win the Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) at Monmouth Park.
In 2008, Garcia rode Da’ Tara to an upset victory over Big Brown in the Belmont Stakes (G1). He also has ridden graded stakes winners Funny Cide, Presious Passion, Grand Couturier (GB), Regal Ransom, Rutherienne, Vineyard Haven, Dynaforce, Albertus Maximus, Justenuffhumor, Swift Temper, and Bribon (Fr).
Garcia, 24, is a third-generation jockey. His father and grandfather both were jockeys in Peru.
