The sky appeared to be the limit for Warbling when she made her career debut on October 30 at Keeneland Race Course and won by 7 1/2 lengths, and Joseph Sutton’s Unbridled’s Song filly began delivering on that promise by notching her first stakes win in the $200,000 Inside Information Stakes (G2) on Sunday at Gulfstream Park.
“I’ve thought she was special from the beginning,” said trainer Eddie Kenneally. “ Her two races last year in Kentucky were very good, and I was looking forward to this winter here. She didn’t break well last time [when third in the Hurricane Bertie Stakes (G3)], but she was sharp today, although I really didn’t think she would be on the lead.”
Starting alertly under Julien Leparoux, Warbling went right to the front pressed on the outside by recent Hurricane Bertie winner Kays and Jays.
Through opening fractions of :22.25 and :44.78, Warbling controlled the pace before kicking away from the field through six furlongs in 1:08.63. She won by 3¾ lengths in 1:21.92 for seven furlongs on a track rated as fast. Kays and Jays faded to eighth while Tar Heel Mom’s four-wide move on the far turn was good enough to secure second, 4¼ lengths ahead of Thunders Dove.
“It wasn’t the plan to be on the lead, but she broke very sharp and was comfortable in front,” Leparoux said. “And as long as she was comfortable, I was happy. She went fast, but actually, it felt like I was just cruising along very nicely, and when I asked her she just broke again and she finished very well. I feel like seven furlongs is a good distance for her. Maybe something longer in the future, but right now seven furlongs is best for her.”
“There are races for her ahead doing what she’s been doing, and the Grade 1 Humana [Distaff Stakes] on [Kentucky] Derby [Presented by Yum! Brands (G1)] day at Churchill is a goal,” Kenneally said. “As long as there are good races for her going one turn, we’ll keep her doing that, but maybe down the line try and stretch her out.”
Sutton acquired Warbling for $260,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale. Charles Deters bred her in Kentucky out of the stakes-placed winner Impassion, by Shadeed. Warbling’s full sister is stakes winner Arianna’s Passion, dam of multiple stakes winner Distorted Passion.
