Eskendereya top individual choice in second Future Wager

Posted: Sunday, March 07, 2010 9:49 PM

by Mike Curry

Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) winner Eskendereya took over from champion Lookin At Lucky as the top individual betting interest in Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 2.

Eskendereya, the 8 1/2-length winner of the Fountain of Youth, closed at 5-to-1 odds. He was followed by Lookin At Lucky at 9-to-1 and Grade 1 winner Dublin at 10-to-1 among the individual horses, but the field option of all other three-year-olds remained the favorite at 3-to-1.

Lookin At Lucky was the 8-to-1 favorite among individual interests in the opening pool, but the champion two-year-old male of 2009 has yet to race this season. He is slated to make his season debut on Saturday, most likely in the Rebel Stakes (G2) at Oaklawn Park.

Churchill Downs reported $269,306 wagered in the win pool with an additional $86,547 in exacta wagering. The total of $355,853 was down 6.5%, compared with $380,420 last year during the second pool, which was the first time exacta betting was offered for Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

Multiple Grade 1 winner Blind Luck closed as the 4-to-1 favorite for the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager. She was followed by Davona Dale Stakes (G2) winner Amen Hallelujah at 6-to-1 and highly regarded allowance winner Christine Daae at 7-to-1. The all-other three-year-old fillies field bet was fourth in the wagering at 7-to-1.
