First-time starter Dawnie Macho sets Arlington track record
Posted: Saturday, June 12, 2010 9:09 PM
Dawnie Macho blazed to a track-record setting victory at Arlington Park in her career debut on Saturday.
Ridden by Michael Baze, the chestnut Macho Uno filly led from the start and shook clear of eight opponents into the stretch to win the 4½-furlong maiden special weight race by five lengths in :51.16 on the synthetic Polytrack surface. The time eclipsed the previous record of :51.22 set by My Dominick James in a maiden special weight race on June 8, 2008.
Trained by Wayne Catalano for owner Wayne Granger, Dawnie Macho is the first starter out of the unraced Montbrook mare Blush of Dawn. She failed to meet her reserve on a final bid of $49,000 when offered by Costanzo Sales, agent, at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. spring sale of two-year-olds in training in April.
Dawnie Macho was bred in Florida by Maurice Miller.
