Personal Ensign next for Rachel Alexandra

Reigning Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra will try to extend her current win streak to three on August 29 when she contests the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course.

Jess Jackson, who co-owns the four-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly with Harold McCormick, said the 1¼-mile race for fillies and mares will help her prepare for the Breeders’ Cup in November at Churchill Downs.

“Rachel feels very much at home among the great Saratoga fans,” Jackson said. “It’s a historic race, named after a great champion. The timing is right for Rachel. She’s been coming back into her stride and this will help her prepare for the rest of her campaign and the Breeders’ Cup World Championships later this year.”

After starting her four-year-old season with runner-up finishes in the New Orleans Ladies Stakes on March 13 at Fair Grounds and the La Troienne Stakes (G2) on April 30 at Churchill, Rachel Alexandra bounced back with a 10½-length romp in the Fleur de Lis Handicap (G2) on June 12 at Churchill and a three-length score in the Lady’s Secret Stakes on July 24 at Monmouth Park.

Rachel Alexandra will be making her first start at 1¼ miles in the Personal Ensign. The longest race of Rachel Alexandra's career was the 1 3/16-mile BlackBerry Preakness Stakes (G1), which she won by one length.

Rachel Alexandra will also be returning to the scene of her season-ending triumph over older males in the 2009 Woodward Stakes (G1) last September.

“The whole team is excited to have Rachel back at Saratoga preparing for this Grade 1 race,” trainer Steve Asmussen said.

The best may be behind Rachel (2009), especially going the extra distance 1 1/4 ! "Life at Ten" is the horse to beat, since the Queen,Zenyatta won't be there ! If Rachel can get far enough ahead of the fiels she may be able to hold on ? Can't wait to see Zenyatta win it all again in Nov. Breeders Cup, she is the horse of the "century" !

I'm happy to see Rachel back in her skin again but I do not understand her campaign. She is Horse of the Year and her Place is with the best of racing. She would have beat blame in the Foster as she ran faster 40 minutes earlier. She should be running against males losses to males would less diminish reputation. Why not run in the Woodward she would do the unthinkable.
Life at Ten is an Exceptional Horse but beating her will not get her Old Filly or Mare honors or HoTY for that matter.

Right now she is in a position not to get any votes for any honor. This is a said occurrence. Mr. Jackson, Mr Assmussen Please re think you plans. SHE IS THAT GOOD! and I think you know it. The Fans want to see here beat the best of the best or at least go out trying

Respects
Stephen

Yes, After the C.Hirsch race tomorrow , IF/when Zenyatta wins her 18th consecutive race without any losses, she will be tied with Eclipse himself.

You do know who Eclipse is dont ya? as in the Eclipse Awards........Pure Priceless is what she is........

RA when will you ever tie with Eclipse? Or as Steve Crist of DRFcom says, "Ra has the longest running streak of dodging grade 1 races " he has ever seen.

I think I am going to follow Zenyatta now, I am sick and tired of seeing RA being used by JJ. I am zenyatta fan now.

This is me this time.

Garry from KY, don't worry, I knew, and I'm sure others knew it wasn't your writing. Your recent comment @it had me laughing though. (It's best to just make jokes @ it!) I comp. agree with you @ asking why Zen's connections don't race her in the Whitney, or Woodward, as mentioned for Rachel. Such a double standard. This next Gr1 race is right on plan for RA's heading to the BC. I know all of her fans have been waiting this yr for a race like this.
