Free Fee Lady takes aims for another jewel of Triple Tiara

by Steve Bailey

Harlequin Ranches’ Free Fee Lady will look to secure two-thirds of Canada’s Triple Tiara series on Sunday when she meets seven opponents in the $250,000 Wonder Where Stakes at Woodbine.

The Victory Gallop filly will make her turf debut as she enters the 1¼-mile race for three-year-old Canadian-bred fillies, the final jewel of the Triple Tiara, off back-to-back victories in a seven-furlong maiden special weight race on June 20 and the Bison City Stakes on July 11, both on the synthetic Polytrack surface at the Toronto track. The Bison City is the second leg of the Triple Tiara and Free Fee Lady scored an authoritative four-length win.

Trained by Reade Baker, the dark bay or brown filly finished second in her career debut in a seven-furlong maiden special weight race on May 22 at Woodbine.

Moment of Majesty finished second, a head behind Roan Inish, in the Woodbine Oaks Presented by Budweiser, the first leg of the Triple Tiara on June 13, and then finished eighth behind Big Red Mike in the Queen’s Plate Stakes on July 4 in her most recent start for trainer and co-owner Sue Leslie.

James and Alice Sapara’s Somme also has won two of her three starts this season, capturing a one-mile maiden special weight race on the turf on May 23 and the Alywow Stakes at 6½ furlongs on the turf on June 13, both at Woodbine.

The bay Theatrical (Ire) filly, trained by Josie Carroll, enters off a runner-up finish to Barracks Road in the one-mile Ontario Damsel Stakes on the Woodbine turf on July 10.

Eaton Hall Farm’s Bodua is winless in five starts this season but won last season’s Fanfreluche Stakes in October on the Woodbine main track for trainer Michael Doyle.
