Rahystrada charges to Arlington Handicap victory

Robert Courtney’s Rahystrada rallied from midpack and charged between horses in the stretch for a half-length victory over defending champion Just as Well in the $150,000 Arlington Handicap (G3) on Saturday at Arlington Park, one of three graded stakes races at the track's Arlington Million preview day.

Ridden with precision by Inez Karlsson, Rahystrada covered 1 ¼ miles in 2:01.26 on turf rated as firm.

“He’s an amazing horse,” Karlsson said. “I know he was ready. He likes to run off the layoff and he knows what to do.”

The six-year-old Rahy gelding, trained by Byron Hughes, earned an automatic starting berth in the Arlington Million Stakes (G1) on August 21, as did second- and third-place finishers Just as Well and Tajaaweed.

It was the tenth victory from 26 starts for Rahystrada, who has earned $428,054. A half brother to Grade 3 winner Lone Star Sky, he is out of the Deputy Minister mare Ministrada.
