Upperline finally captured her first stakes on Saturday in the $100,000 Arlington Oaks (G3) at Arlington Park.
Trained by Michael Stidham, who co-owns the Maria’s Mon filly as part of a partnership, Upperline took the lead entering the stretch and outkicked favorite Snow Top Mountain to win by 4¾ lengths. Upperline covered 1 1/8 miles on the synthetic Polytrack surface in 1:52.13.
Entering off a fifth-place finish in the Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1) on April 3 at Keeneland Race Course, Upperline competed in five previous stakes but finished no better than a distant second to She Be Wild in the Top Flight Stakes as a two-year-old.
At the start, Jockey E. T. Baird positioned Upperline behind Chantilly Nayla, who led through a quarter-mile in :23.89, a half-mile in :48.07, and six furlongs in 1:13.48, before guiding her to lead in the stretch.
Snow Top Mountain finished second, followed by previously unbeaten Dundalk Dust in third.
Bred in Kentucky by Stonerside Stable, Upperline improved to three wins from eight career starts. She is out of Group 1-placed winner Snowflake (Ire), by Caerleon.
