Five-time Grade 1 winner Einstein (Brz) sustained a minor soft-tissue injury while preparing for the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap (G1) and has been retired. The eight-year-old Spend a Buck horse will stand his first season at stud at Adena Springs in Paris, Kentucky.
Einstein will stand for $7,500.
The 2009 Santa Anita Handicap (G1) winner was seeking his third win in the Gulfstream Park Turf after winning the race in 2006 and ’08. Einstein won graded stakes on turf, dirt, and synthetic surfaces and earned $2,945,238 with 11 wins in 30 lifetime starts.
"We had hoped to see Einstein win this race for the third time, and were looking forward to letting him continue to run for as long as he was competitive," Adena Springs President Andy Stronach said.
"Einstein loved to run. He had an amazing career winning five Grade 1 races and nearly $3-million in his five years on the track. He's the kind of horse you hope to have in your stable, and the kind of horse fans love to see race. We're saddened to see his racing career come to an end, but we're looking forward to having him join our stallion roster in Kentucky."
Einstein is out of multiple Group 1 winner Gay Charm, by Ghadeer. His second dam, Virga, is a Brazilian classic winner.
