TYB Stable’s Age of Humor took the lead at the start and was in command at every point of call to win the $63,700 Busanda Stakes by 1¼ lengths at Aqueduct on Saturday.
The Busanda was the third career start and stakes debut for the three-year-old Distorted Humor filly, who was stretching out to one mile and 70 yards after closing out her 2009 campaign with a runner-up finish in a 6½-furlong allowance race at Philadelphia Park.
Age of Humor made her career debut at the Meadowlands on November 2 with a rallying victory at six furlongs.
“We were looking forward to running her around two turns; she struck me as the type who would want to [stretch out],” winning trainer Steve Klesaris said. “She had shown enough professionalism in her first two starts that I felt she could handle it.”
With Rosie Napravnik in the irons for the first time, Age of Humor completed the distance in 1:45.87 on a track rated as fast.
“It was hard to tell how the race was going to set up,” Napravnik said. “When [post time favorite Anchorage] stumbled [at the start], we kind of just steered over and got in front real quick. She was nice and relaxed on the lead. We got an easy pace, it just kind of went our way.”
Grade 2-placed winner Fuzzy Britches, last of five three-year-old fillies in the early running, rallied to take second, a neck in front of Judge Sonya. Anchorage and Summer Humor completed the order of finish.
Bred in Kentucky by R. L. Reineman Stable, Age of Humor boosted her career earnings total to $70,800 with two wins and one second from three starts. She is the first stakes winner out of the unraced Silver Deputy mare Age of Silver and is a half sister to stakes-placed winner Coach Ryan.
Age of Humor will be offered for sale on Tuesday at the Keeneland January horses of all ages sale.
