Two-time champion older mare Zenyatta breezed six furlongs in 1:13.20 on Friday at Hollywood Park as she prepares for her 2010 debut in the $250,000 Santa Margarita Handicap (G1) on March 13 at Santa Anita Park.

The move was the fourth of the month for the six-year-old Street Cry (Ire) mare, who is unbeaten in 14 career starts for owners Jerry and Ann Moss and trainer John Shirreffs. The move ranked fourth of 15 timed workouts at the distance.

The 1 1/8-mile Santa Margarita is expected to be a prep for Zenyatta toward a showdown with Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra in the $5-million Apple Blossom Invitational Stakes (G1) on April 9 at Oaklawn Park.

Zenyatta, who won the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) against males on November 7 in her most recent start, has been working out regularly since December.

Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (G1) winner Life Is Sweet also worked six furlongs for Shirreffs on Friday, covering the distance in 1:12.60. The move was ranked second among the 15 at the distance.

The five-year-old Storm Cat mare finished second to St Trinians (GB) in the Santa Maria Handicap (G2) in her 2010 debut. Shirreffs has mentioned the $10-million Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) on March 27 at Meydan Racecourse as a possible next start for Life Is Sweet.
