Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra turned in her second workout of the year on Saturday at Fair Grounds, breezing four furlongs in :50.60.

The move ranked 21st of 32 timed workouts at the distance. Rachel Alexandra breezed four furlongs in :52 on January 31 at the New Orleans track in her first serious movesince her undefeated three-year-old campaign.

Trained by Steve Asmussen for owners Jess Jackson and Harold T. McCormick, Rachel Alexandra is gearing up for her four-year-old season, which may include a start in the Apple Blossom Stakes (G1) on April 3 at Oaklawn Park.

Oaklawn owner Charles Cella promised to boost the purse to $5-million if both Rachel Alexandra and unbeaten two-time champion older female Zenyatta enter the race. It would be the first time the two horses have faced each other on the track, and both own victories on the Oaklawn main track.

A four-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly, Rachel Alexandra won the 2009 Eclipse Award as Horse of the Year and champion three-year-old filly after winning all eight of her starts, including the BlackBerry Preakness Stakes (G1) and Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) against males and the Woodward Stakes (G1) against older males.
