Grade 2 winners Misremembered and Rendezvous will try to gain some momentum for the 2010 season on Saturday at Santa Anita Park in the $200,000 Strub Stakes (G2), which drew ten four-year-olds.
Natalie Baffert’s and George Jacobs’ Misremembered won four of nine starts last year in his first season of racing for trainer Bob Baffert. The four-year-old Candy Ride (Arg) ridgling scored his first graded stakes victory in the Swaps Stakes on July 18 at Hollywood Park and, after a tenth-place finish in the Pacific Classic Stakes (G1), bounced back to capture the Indiana Derby (G2) on October 3 at Hoosier Park (video). He followed that effort up with a strong second-place finish in the Clark Handicap (G2) on November 27 at Churchill Downs (video) before being shipped back to the West Coast.
Misremembered enters the 1 1/8-mile race off a runner up finish to M One Rifle in the Malibu Stakes (G1) on December 26 at the Arcadia, California, track.
Rendezvous, winner of the Del Mar Derby (G2) in September (video), will try to snap a three-start winless skid for trainer and co-owner Jerry Hollendorfer. The chestnut Victory Gallop colt enters off a third-place finish behind Papa Clem and Strub entrant Smart Bid in the San Fernando Stakes (G2) on January 16.
Trained by Graham Motion for Augustin Stable, Smart Bid won two of five starts last season, including a victory in the seven-furlong Damascus Stakes on November 7 during the Oak Tree at Santa Anita Park meeting (video). The dark bay or brown Smart Strike colt also finished seventh in the Malibu.
Also entered is Grade 1 winner Square Eddie, who is winless since capturing the 2008 Lane’s End Breeders’ Futurity (G1) in his North American debut.
After finishing second to Midshipman in the 2008 Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), the Smart Strike colt was winless in six starts last season, his best finish being a second behind The Pamplemousse in the San Rafael Stakes (G3) in January.
