Cynthia DeBartolo’s Life At Ten pulled away from game pacesetter Jessica Is Back in the final sixteenth to win the $200,000 Sixty Sails Handicap (G3) on Saturday at Hawthorne Race Course.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Life At Ten edged away for her fourth consecutive win and first graded stakes triumph. The five-year-old Malibu Moon mare won by one length and covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:51.02 on a track rated as fast.
Life At Ten received a near-perfect trip as jockey Michael Baze allowed the mare to stalk the pace while Jessica Is Back led through a quarter-mile in :24.41 and a half-mile in :49.06.
The two separated themselves from the remaining six older fillies and mares following six furlongs in 1:13.72 as Life At Ten and Jessica Is Back engaged in a duel entering the stretch. The pair battled for about a furlong on Hawthorne’s stretch before Life At Ten dispatched the Put It Back mare in the final strides to win.
Shipped to Hawthorne from South Florida by trainer Marty Wolfson, 1.70-to-1 favorite Jessica Is Back finished 3¼ lengths ahead of third-place finisher Miss Singhsix (Ire), also trained by Wolfson.
Life At Ten kick-started her winning streak on November 15, taking a six-furlong allowance race to snap a six-start winless skid. She followed with open-length victories in the Snit Stakes on December 12 and the Rare Treat Stakes on February 10, all at Aqueduct.
Bred by Nickleback Farm in Kentucky, Life At Ten is out of the winning Rahy mare Rahrahsixboombah. She improved to five wins from 12 career starts and earnings of $309,267 with the victory.
