McPeek yet to confirm Noble’s Promise for Ky. Derby

Trainer Ken McPeek said Grade 1 winner Noble’s Promise is recovering well from a physical trip in the Arkansas Derby (G1) on April 10, and the Cuvee colt will be shipped to Churchill Downs on Wednesday.

Noble’s Promise arrived at McPeek’s Magdalena Farm in Lexington from Hot Springs, Arkansas, on Monday. He sustained several lacerations after he was bumped hard at the start of the Arkansas Derby, and McPeek said he also is being treated for a lung infection after his fifth-place finish in his final Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) prep race.

McPeek would not confirm Noble’s Promise as “definite” for the first jewel of the Triple Crown on May 1 at Churchill.

“He’s going to gallop Thursday after the break, and we are intending on working on either on the 20th or 21st of [April],” McPeek said.

“We’re going to need to work him and know that he’s good enough to work. He seems to be okay. We’ve got the cuts under control; I think they’re a short-term issue and relatively solved already. The lung infection that we were dealing with, it’s going to depend on how he responds to all that.”

Racing Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert’s three-year-old contingent shipped from Southern California to Churchill on Tuesday, including champion Lookin At Lucky and multiple Grade 3 winner Conveyance.

Let's remember that it's a horse that was bred for one purpose, to ultimately run on the Kentucky derby. If he is determined to be competitive, he has to run. This is the apex of his career and he is three years old only once. Let's see what he can do.

the derby is the race of the year, but it is too crowded....the horse is to valuable to ruin his career..therefore be really fit and ready for another race , and a much better chance to win.

It's nice to be in the Derby but why not get the horse ready for the Preakness ? Why push it ?
