Bridgetown followed an impressive maiden win at Saratoga Race Course last month with a 1½-length victory in the $286,891 Summer Stakes (Can-G3) on Saturday at Woodbine.
Bridgetown earned a starting berth in the $1-million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G2) with the win via the Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” series. He probably is bound for the race at the same distance on November 7 at the Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita Park.
Bridgetown pressed the early pace of lukewarm 2.95-to-1 favorite Stormy Lord before taking charge turning for home and powering clear under jockey Robert Landry. He completed the distance in 1:35.04 on firm turf.
Becky’s Kitten rallied late to take second by a nose over Fantastico Roberto (Ire), who finished a neck in front of Mobil Unit.
Trained by Ken McPeek for owner-breeder Eugene Melnyk, Bridgetown has two wins and a second from his three starts and earnings of $206,612. He entered off a 5¼-length win in a maiden special weight race on August 14 at Saratoga.
Out of the stakes-placed winning Tabasco Cat mare Ellesmere, the chestnut colt is a half brother to stakes winner Carnacks Choice.
