Dixie Band accelerates to Futurity score

Dixie Band remained perfect in three career starts on Saturday as he cruised to victory in the $150,000 Arlington-Washington Futurity (G3) at Arlington Park.

The two-year-old Dixie Union gelding took the lead in midstretch from the outside and powered to a 1¾-length score under David Flores. Dixie Band covered one mile on the synthetic Polytrack surface in 1:39.45 for his third straight win.

Trained by Wayne Catalano for owners Darrell and Evelyn Yates, Dixie Band tracked in third as the 4-to-5 favorite as Beware the Tiger led the seven-horse field through six furlongs in 1:12.95. U Appeal to Me took the lead from a tiring Beware the Tiger in early stretch, but Dixie Band accelerated boldly from the outside and scored a clear victory.

The first winner from three starters out of the stakes-winning Forty Niner mare Tutorial, Dixie Band increased his earnings to $136,920 with his third straight win.
