Positive Split spoils career debut of Lentenor

After posting runner-up finishes in each of his two previous starts, Positive Split overcame a troubled trip to win impressively as the 6-to-5 favorite on Saturday in the fifth race at Keeneland Race Course.

Positive Split completed seven furlongs on the synthetic Polytrack surface in 1:24.59 and spoiled the career debut of Lentenor, the two-year-old full brother to ill-fated 2006 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Barbaro.

A gray or roan colt by Repent, Positive Split split foes and bumped with an opponent leaving the turn, accelerated gamely after finding clear running room in the stretch, and steadily powered clear to win by 1 1/2 lengths. He is out of the Two Punch mare Hope of Nations.

Lentenor showed good early speed in his career debut after breaking from post two. Trapped behind traffic entering the stretch under Julien Leparoux, Lentenor was angled to the outside and finished willingly in the stretch for third in the 11-horse field.

A bay colt by Dynaformer, Lentenor is out of multiple Grade 2-placed winner La Ville Rouge, by Carson City. In addition to Kentucky Derby and Florida Derby (G1) winner Barbaro, Lentenor also is a full brother to three-year-old winner Nicanor and a half brother to stakes winner Holy Ground.
