Nancy Mazzoni’s homebred She Be Wild will try to remain unbeaten and secure her first Grade 1 victory against 11 challengers in the $500,000 Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) on Friday, the opening day of the fall meeting at Keeneland Race Course.
The two-year-old Offlee Wild filly has won her three starts by a combined margin of 18 ¼ lengths and enters off a 5 ¾-length victory in the Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes (G3) on September 5 at Arlington Park for trainer Wayne Catalano (video).
A victory will guarantee She Be Wild or one of her challengers a spot in the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) as part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” series.
Grade 3 winner Decelerator will try to regain the form she displayed while winning the Debutante Stakes (G3) on June 27 at Churchill Downs (video).
Trained by D. Wayne Lukas for Westrock Stables, the Dehere filly finished sixth in the Schuylerville Stakes (G3) on July 29 at Saratoga Race Course and last of nine in the Adirondack Stakes (G2) on August 19 at the Spa in her previous two starts.
Peter Callahan’s Beautician finished second in her previous two starts—beaten both times by Hot Dixie Chick—in the Schuylerville and then the Spinaway Stakes (G1) on September 6 at Saratoga (video).
The Dehere filly is trained by Ken McPeek, who has won the race three times: with She’s a Devil Due (2000), Take Charge Lady (’01), and Dream Empress (’08).
“I have also had two seconds and two thirds in the race and this is the most confident I have ever been coming into the race,” McPeek said. “She has got a lot of talent and is very professional.
“I think she is better than all three of them that won this race. I know she is better than She’s a Devil Due [the 2000 winner], and I don’t know if Dream Empress could have gotten checks sprinting."
Kid Kate enters the Alcibiades unbeaten in two starts for trainer Chad Brown. The Lemon Drop Kid filly enters off a 3¾-length victory in the Junior Champion Stakes on August 29 at Monmouth Park (video).
