Tizahit stalked the pace in the $200,000 Demoiselle Stakes (G2) and shook clear to a one-length win for her first career stakes victory on Saturday at Aqueduct.

She covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:53.09 under Edgar Prado to improve to two wins and one second from four starts. Trained by George Weaver for owners Jim and Susan Hill, the dark bay or brown Tiznow filly entered off a fourth-place finish in the Tempted Stakes (G3) on November 7 at Aqueduct which was preceded by a runner-up finish in the Blue Hen Stakes in October at Delaware Park.

"We'll probably give her a little bit of a breather,” Weaver said of Tizahit, who is out of the Kris S. mare Never a No Hitter. “We were thinking that before this race, so I'm not gung ho to get her back in the entries right away. But she's always acted like she was a nice filly, so we'll just enjoy this and see how it goes."

Prado settled Tizahit in third, within four lengths of pacesetter Oh Diane. Tizahit moved up on cue, challenged for the lead near the quarter pole, and opened a clear lead in early stretch en route to victory.

"I thought Edgar did a good job placing her,” Weaver said. “In my eyes she was really just kind of a closer, didn't have a whole lot of speed, but he recognized that there weren't a lot of other horses with speed. He placed her forwardly without going crazy and just gave us a good trip, no trouble.”

Protesting finished second as the 5-to-2 favorite in her stakes debut. Fuzzy Britches was another 3 3/4 lengths back in third in the seven-horse field.
