WinStar Farm’s homebred Super Saver delivered a dominant victory in the $191,250 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) on Saturday at Churchill Downs.

The Maria’s Mon colt broke on top and controlled the pace in the 1 1/16-mile race. Just as it appeared he would be caught at the top of the stretch, the bay rebroke and powered clear of the field for a five-length win, covering the distance in 1:42.83 on a track rated as fast.

The Kentucky Jockey Club was part of the track’s Stars of Tomorrow II card, featuring 12 races for two-year-olds.

William’s Kitten checked in second, 4 ½ lengths clear of Worldly.

Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by Calvin Borel, Super Saver earned his first stakes victory. He made his stakes debut in the Champagne Stakes (G1) on October 10 at Belmont Park and finished fourth, two lengths behind winner Homeboykris.

“He’s an awesome colt,” said Borel, who earned his fourth win on the card and finished tied with Julien Leparoux as the leading rider at the meet with 27 victories. “I talked to Todd [Pletcher] and he told me the main thing was to try and get this one to change leads a little earlier. I made him switch leads in the turn and he really turned it on again.”

The victory increased Super Saver’s earnings to $171,232 with two wins from four starts. He is out of the winning A.P. Indy mare Supercharger, a full sister to Grade 2 winners Daydreaming and Girolamo and Grade 3 winner and sire Accelerator.
