The Native Blaze first winner for Blazonry

Posted: Thursday, November 05, 2009 10:08 AM

After five runner-up finishes in seven previous starts, The Native Blaze controlled the pace and cruised to a dominant 5 3/4-length win in the third race on Tuesday night at Mountaineer Race Track to become the first career winner for California-based sire Blazonry.

Trained by Tommy Short for owner Dwight Preston, The Native Blaze completed the 5 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race in 1:07.39 on a track rated as fast. Bred in Kentucky by Greg Peach, The Native Blaze is out of the Native Prospector mare Golden River, a daughter of champion Cascapedia.

A nine-year-old by Hennessy out of the Alydar mare Altair, Blazonry stood the 2009 season for $2,500 at Running Horse in Stevinson, California. A half brother to Aldebaran Light, dam of Group 1 winner Balmont and Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) contender Eskendereya, Blazonry has 13 two-year-olds in his first crop.

Blazonry won two of eight career starts, including the 2003 Lazaro Barrera Memorial Stakes (G2), in two racing seasons.
