R. D. Hubbard’s Spring House picked up his sixth stakes victory on Saturday when he captured the $100,000 Golden Gate Fields Turf Stakes (G3).

Trained by Julio Canani, the seven-year-old Chester House gelding chased pacesetter Yacht Spotter from midpack before launching his winning bid in midstretch under Russell Baze. Spring House covered 1 3/8 miles in 2:19.62 on firm turf.

Spring House was sent off as the 3-to-5 favorite and entered off a second-place finish to Midships in the 1¾-mile San Juan Capistrano Invitational Handicap (G2) on April 19 at Santa Anita Park.

Spring House was rated in fifth then sixth under Baze and was unhurried as Yacht Spotter laid down slow fractions of :26.04 for the opening quarter and 50:98 for a half-mile before leading by 1 1/2 lengths though a mile 1:42.09.

Yacht Spotter appeared poised to earn his first stakes win as he led by two lengths in early stretch. Baze, however, gave Spring House his cue entering the lane along the rail. Spring House passed Ordination (Ire) and Obrigado (Fr) and overtook Yacht Spotter in deep stretch en route to his first win in three starts since taking the San Luis Obispo Handicap (G2) on February 22 at Santa Anita.

Sir Dave closed from seventh to overtake Yacht Spotter and finished second, a length in front of that opponent.

Bred in Kentucky by Hubbard and partners, Spring House improved to nine wins in 41 career starts and boosted his earnings to $941,284. Spring House is out of Group 2 winner Spring Star (Brz), by Itajara.
