Emigh notches 3,000th career victory

Jockey Chris Emigh scored his 3,000th career victory on Saturday with a pick-up mount, guiding John Reinhart’s Thanks Lord to a 1¾-length win in the fourth race at Arlington Park.

The Virginia native positioned the six-year-old Classified Facts mare in second. She seized command from along the rail on the turn and opened up a four-length lead in early stretch to cement the milestone win for Emigh.

“This was the best name for the horse to do it on—Thanks Lord,” Emigh said after the victory. “I was riding ten today and if I didn’t [get the milestone] win today I’d be fired. I want to thank my agent, Jay Fedor, and all the trainers who rode me, especially Frank Kirby, Christine Janks, Brian Williamson, and Scott Becker.”

A 38-year-old resident of Elburn, Illinois, Emigh moved his tack from Louisiana to Illinois in late 1996 at the suggestion of fellow jockey Robby Albarado. Emigh won his first graded stakes that year aboard Come On Flip in the Hawthorne Gold Cup Handicap (G2). He has amassed 91 stakes wins and nine graded stakes victories.

Emigh has seven riding titles at Hawthorne Race Course, and he won the title at Arlington in 2006.
