West Side Bernie to Godolphin

Grade 3 winner West Side Bernie has joined the Godolphin Racing roster after being purchased privately from George and Lori Hall.

The purchase price was not announced. 

Simon Crisford, Godolphin’s racing manager, said West Side Bernie would get some time off at Belmont Park following his ninth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) (video). 

Crisford said the current plan is for West Side Bernie to race a few times this fall before heading to Dubai for the Winter Carnival. 

“I don’t know yet which connections he will race for in Dubai but he will be with us until such time when he ships,” Crisford said.

West Side Bernie won the Kentucky Cup Juvenile Stakes (G3) (video) by three lengths at Turfway Park last September in his second career start for Kelly Breen, the Halls’s private trainer.

The Bernstein colt out of Time Honored, by Gilded Time, finished second to Big Drama in the Boyd Gaming’s Delta Jackpot Stakes (G3) in December and second to I Want Revenge in the Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) (video) on April 4.

In the Kentucky Derby, West Side Bernie finished 15 ½ lengths behind Mine That Bird at odds of 32.40-to-1.
