Studart injured in Belmont barn mishap

Posted: Thursday, June 18, 2009 7:20 PM

Jockey Maylan Studart underwent surgery at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York, on Thursday after breaking her left leg in an accident at about 9:45 a.m. EDT at Belmont Park.

Agent Jose Henriquez said Studart was injured while at the barn of trainer Rodrigo Ubillo.

“I was on a two-year-old in the barn and she was walking by,” Ubillo said. “She went to pet the horse and he reared up and his leg came down on top of her.”

North Shore spokesperson Kristen Longo said Studart remains at the hospital in stable condition.

Studart, a 20-year-old Brazilian native, began riding at Aqueduct last fall. She was named on three horses at the Elmont, New York, track on Thursday.
