Fountain of Youth next for Notonthesamepage

Posted: Sunday, January 04, 2009 7:29 PM

After a dominant 8¼-length romp in the Spectacular Bid Stakes on Saturday at Gulfstream Park, Notonthesamepage will be pointed to the $250,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) on February 28.

Trainer Wesley Ward said the chestnut Catienus colt came out of his victory in the six-furlong Spectacular Bid victory in good order. Notonthesamepage led at every point of call in the Spectacular Bid and completed the distance on a track rated as fast in 1:08.48, just off the track record of 1:08.46 set by Tiger on February 16, 2006.

“He’s doing great this morning,” Ward said on Sunday. “I always like to give horses some time after a big run. That was a big run yesterday. The Fountain of Youth will be great for him at a mile.”

After winning a 4½-furlong maiden special weight race at Churchill Downs in a track record time of :50.12, Notonthesamepage finished second in the Tyro Stakes at Monmouth Park in July and fifth in the Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes (G1) in September at Saratoga Race Course. He finished last of 11 in the Lane’s End Breeders’ Futurity (G1) to close his two-year-old campaign, but Ward said he thinks he found the problem that caused the colt’s disappointing finishes.

“He had issues with his throat and bleeding last summer, which explains his last couple of races, but it looks like that’s past him now,” Ward said. “I’d always thought of him as a really good sprinter, but once he got those problems behind him, he’s just started training so well. The Fountain of Youth lets us stretch him out and see how far he wants to go.”

A Ken and Sarah Ramsey homebred, Notonthesamepage has won two of six starts and earned $109,078.
