Stardom Bound among Kentucky Oaks nominees

Champion Stardom Bound is one of 170 fillies nominated to the $500,000 Kentucky Oaks (G1) on May 1 at Churchill Downs.

The nomination total is up from 165 fillies last year but down from a record 192 in 2007. The $100 nomination fee was due on February 14. Supplemental nominations will be accepted at the time of entry on April 28 for $25,000.

Stardom Bound, who has compiled four consecutive Grade 1 wins on synthetic surfaces, also is nominated to the Triple Crown. She has never raced on dirt.

The nominations also include Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) winner Dream Empress, Frizette Stakes (G1) winner Sky Diva, Hollywood Starlet Stakes (G1) winner Laragh, Forward Gal Stakes (G2) winner Frolic’s Dream, Golden Rod Stakes (G2) winner Rachel Alexandra, Matron Stakes (G2) winner Doremifasollatido, San Vicente Stakes (G2) winner Evita Argentina, Delta Princess Stakes (G3) winner Four Gifts, and Silverbulletday Stakes (G3) winner War Echo.

Todd Pletcher was the leading trainer with 12 nominees. Pletcher won the Oaks with eventual champions Ashado in 2004 and Rags to Riches in ’07.
