King of the Roxy headed back to racetrack

Multiple graded stakes winner King of the Roxy will resume his racing career after initially being retired last fall.

The five-year-old Littleexpectations horse is beginning his comeback at KESMARC in Lexington, said Barry Irwin, principal of owner Team Valor International.

“He had a problem with a pastern and it looked like it was never going to heal,” Irwin said. “It took about ten months. We’re going to go real slow [in bringing him back].”

Trained by Todd Pletcher, King of the Roxy won the 2006 Futurity Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park and ’07 Hutcheson Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park before finishing second by a half-length to Tiago in the Santa Anita Derby (G1). He finished sixth in the Carter Handicap (G1) last April in his most recent start.

Bred in Ohio, King of the Roxy has won three of 12 career starts and earned $536,734.
