Nicanor finishes second again
Nicanor, a full brother to ill-fated 2006 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Barbaro, finished second to pacesetter Glittermans Cartel in his third career start on Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
Glittermans Cartel led through a half-mile in :46.52 and six furlongs in 1:10.42 in the one-mile maiden special weight race as Nicanor was rated in second by Jose Lezcano. Glittermans Cartel held off the 7-to-10 favorite to win by a half-length, covering one mile in 1:36.08 on a track rated as fast.
“We had good position coming around the far turn, but he was just playing around looking at the other horses,” Lezcano said. “Coming down the stretch, he was a little green. I think he’ll become a nice horse.”
Nicanor entered off a second-place finish on March 7 to Custom for Carlos, the third-place finisher in the Swale Stakes (G2) on Saturday at Gulfstream.
